I am 42 years of age.
I was a fireman employed on board steamer belonging to Messrs Gibb Livingston & Co. I was so employed for several months. She was lost in a collision near Melbourne on the 3rd of August last - all the crew were saved excepting the 2nd steward. I arrived at Hongkong on the 11th September in the ss. "Somerset". Last year I was employed on board a P.&O. Steamer. I do not know the name of it. It is now in Japan. I left that steamer and joined another P.&O. Steamer for about a year, and I left at the end of 1875. I then joined the "Powan", river steamer for two months, from which I went to Messrs Gibbs Steamer. I did not get any employment on board any vessel after my arrival on the 11th September. I resided with my children (son 15 years, daughter 5 years) on the upper-floor of a Cooper's shop at Gap Street. Wong-a-Kow's brother-in-law named Atak owed me $2 and he told me to ask Akow for it. I have known Akow for about 3 years. Accordingly on the morning of the 26th November I went in the earliest steam-ferry boat to Yauma to get the $2. I saw Akow who told me to sit down for a few minutes. I did so, and shortly afterwards the Police came and apprehended me.
I know nothing about the robbery of Opium.
